Creative critical reflection

Creative Critical Reflection   1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?           It uses the conventions from what we researched earlier, we included similar elements including shots of the exterior moving shots, the extreme close-up of the rear of the car, and the speedometer rising. We challenged the conventions by having the music start later in the video and end before the video was completely over. This commercial represents the wealthier social group of the world. The BMW car brand is highly regarded as an expensive asset, which means that it is only available to a limited group of people.   2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?       Our product engages the audience because it incorporates lots of action into a small amount of time. The car is no longer for sale so this commercial's main objective would be to rekindle the love people feel for the ca

Our Finished Commercial

https://youtu.be/9hi1n19iJ-4 This was the first big project we had all worked on as a group. Looking back on the project there are many obvious flaws with the video. We can definitely improve on these things in the upcoming projects . My group mates' production skills have improved dramatically throughout this project. We are proud of our commercial and hope to improve even further with our next project.

Finishing the Editing

When we wanted to continue editing we had to wait until later in the day. Ryan came to my study hall, and we worked on editing for the entire class. Most of the process was getting quicker as we learned the program. Ryan was incredibly helpful in finding ways to do each action that we wanted to add. We were unable to completely finish editing on this day. We still needed to make s ure the sound was good, and the music was able to be heard. The next day Ryan and I got to work right away. As Ryan looked for the music , I added the sounds and cut out background noise. While he was looking for music, he found a sound effect of stage lights flipping on, so he sent it to my computer. He then found the music and it was soon on my computer and added to the video. Unfortunately, Griffin was not in school this day, so we were unable to gather his feedback in that class. However, Nick was present, so we played the video, and he gave us feedback. Nicks's first comment was that

Starting to Edit

Image
In full swing of production, we chose to start editing. We chose to use iMovie to edit our commercial . I started using this application on my phone but realized that after about an hour I had not gotten far. I needed more advanced tools to capture the result we are after. To use the application on my computer, I had to completely restart it. Ryan and I started working on it in class the next day. We got about a third of the way through. Ryan was a big he lp in researching ways to make the editing process easier and produce better results. We started with the first shot an d found that there was a better way to introduce the product. We did this by adding little cuts throu ghout. We also used transitions in these cuts to capture the product in a better way. We then worked on the final shot. We started by trimming the shot of Ryan exiting the car. We then added a fading transition to the logo of the product. Ryans' idea of doing this allows us to not have to film our previo

Production

On Wednesday the 5 th of October my group decided to film. I was the first to arrive at the filming location, so I warmed up the car and drove around to find the best spots to film. Griffin and nick showed up at the same time. While we waited for Ryan to show up, we took audio clips in case there was too much ambient noise. We filmed each sound clip three times to ensure we were good. After filming the sound, we waited for Ryan to show up. When Ryan showed up, we started filming the scenes. We filmed out of order b ecause of the traffic on the road so some shots were easier to film at various times . The first shot we filmed was the shot of the car starting in the dark. I started the car while Nick filmed, and Griffin switched the lights. The next shot filmed was the car exiting the warehouse and onto the street. The next shot that was filmed was of the speedometer rising. After this shot Griffen filmed me driving by the camera quickly to capture the speed of the camera. I thi

Story Board

First scene: During this scene, we will be filming a BMW, more specifically an e36 M3, for the commercial. This shot will be an extreme close-up of the back wheel and muffler of the car. This shot will be filmed inside the warehouse. We want to do this shot to show the performance of the car because BMW focuses so heavily on the performance of the car.   Second scene: We will get a shot of the car / cars rolling out of the warehouse getting different shots and then get it driving onto the road.     Third scene: we get a shot of the car driving on a separate road away from the warehouse with shots of it driving by quickly.   Fourth scene:   In th is scene, it will focus on the speedometer to show the performance and speed in a way people can really understand what the car is capable of. Fifth scene:   In the fifth scene the car hits its climax speed for the commercial to show it in action also advertising its performance to people who like speed and a look at what the car wil
