Creative Critical Reflection

Image
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Alternative rock videos are most commonly filmed in run-down abandoned areas to convey the message of a person struggling. Music videos by 21 pilots are filmed with a grey filter over the entire video, causing the bright colors to be muted. I chose to challenge these conventions by filming and editing the video with the original colors present. The gender roles present in the video were presented using acting and costumes. I chose to film the video in well-lit areas of the actor's house. most of the time the shots were filmed at eye level but the shots of the actor sitting down and the younger version of the actor were filmed from higher angles. I used the jump cuts at the beginning to keep the viewer interested by adding some quick action to the video. After researching more videos of 21 pilots videos I found that most were filmed outside. I challenged this convention by entir

Stressed Out Music Video

Image
This is my final music video. I utilized lots of jump cuts but also included many transitions when editing. My favorite scene was the tracking shot of the actor walking to the couch and picking up the photo album. This was an overall super fun project to film. The editing was way more accessible than the previous project because I had already practiced adding the music like I did on the commercial. This song is now stuck in my head and I am super proud of how it turned out. Don't be stressed out!

Finishing Up Editing

I re-filmed the zoom shots today. I was able to move them to my computer and get them ready to fit seamlessly into the video. Using what I found on youtube the scenes look very good and adds lots of value to the story being told. I filmed these shots from a first-person view to make it feel like you are looking through the actors' eyes. I had to cut these shots down from the original lengths and made them each about 4 seconds long. The next thing I did was include the music in the file. I did this by recording the music with my phone. When I tied to add it to my computer though the quality was awful. To fix this I had to wait until my phone sent the recording to my computer over stronger wifi. When this did not work either I had to use a cable to transfer the recording at the highest quality possible. When I got to school and added the music in Ryan listened and decided that there was a better part of the song we should use. We recorded this part of the song and tried adding the m

First Day of Editing

Image
Today I started editing. For this project, I will be using I movie again. Choosing to do this was easy, I used the program to edit the commercial and still remember how to do most of the editing that I need to do. I started by importing all the footage onto my computer. After we got all the footage onto my computer, we started to plan out which shots we wanted and w hen. Since I had filmed some scenes in a different order, I reorganized them correctly to make the editing process easier.   I found myself comparing many of the takes, so I ended up consulting my group mates for assistance. The first big challenge was moving all the footage into the program. This took about twe nty minute s due to the la rge clips that we took. The raw footage was about two minutes and thirty seconds long. Next, I needed to trim down many beginnings and endings of my clips to only include the important parts, and to stay on track with my target time. I was able to cut down the footage to about

Filming

Image
Ryan and I filmed today! I got to the filming location at 2:00pm and waited 3 minutes for my group to arrive. The first shot I filmed was of the actor waking up and turning his alarm off. This shot took 6 tries to get right. The actor and I kept laughing in the middle of the shot and it would cause us to have to resta rt the shot. The next shot we filmed was of the actor putting on his robe and entering the hallway. This shot was tough due to the mirro r at the end, we did not realize that the mirror was in the shot until we rewatched the clips. The shot of him in the bathroom was also tough to film due to the same circumstance with mirrors. I was able to stand at an angle that was not visible in the mirror. We then remembered that we needed to print the pictures before filming the shot of opening the photo album. We used the actor's younger brother to simulate the effect that the actor was having flashbacks. We first took photos of the “younger" version of the actor , we

Collecting Costumes

Image
The next task I had to complete was getting the costumes ready. The first costume that will be shown is an Olderman's pajamas. In order to capture the desired effect of the costume I bought a blue pajama set in a medium size. This will give the effect of an older single man living by himself. The actor will wear this costume for the first half of the video. The next costume is one that the actor will only wear for two scenes. This costume will consist of younger people's clothes. This c ostume will be worn by an actor or multiple actors while they play around the cardboard Rocketship that I previously made. I got this costume at the same place I got the photo album. To have the photos in the albums, we will pose in the starting position of the scene and later print them and put them into the album. This will allow us to zoom into the photos later and fix the sequence in editing. The next costume that needs to be present in the video is a younger child's pajamas. This co
